Just joined with my mk1 racer

Hi guys. Thought i best join here as I'm thinking of building an App K car. Ive owned my mk1 for around 7 or 8 years now and have never put it to good use. I bought it off of Jon Lee whos father, Ryan, started racing it in the 60's. Jon owns LynxAE motorsport.
It started its life in 64' and was running with a pretty standard 970s engine. Over the years eventually evolved into a grp5 970s using Ardens finest, TJ injection, 9 post rocker gear etc etc. That was early to mid 70's. In my teenage years i built a couple of engines for it the last one being a 1460 twin cam. After being stupid and chasing dyno figures i sold the engine and box, bought myself a nice rare Clio V6 and put the shell and running gear into dry storage for 5 years.
After attending Silverstone Classic a few weeks back the bug bit again and the car is due to be on my driveway soon. I would love to keep it as it is and build another 970 up with either an 8 port or twin cam head but huge rpm and big power figures dont really interest me in minis anymore. Because of this i would love to restore it back to its pre 66' days.
To be honest I have no intentions to be a front runner in what ever it races in. I'll be thrilled to just run it next to similar machinery and on a grid.

Id like to see some pictures of it, sounds like a real nice old warrior!

get it ready for brands next year, you would be eligible for the all commers race

I think you would maybe ok to race it in that invitation class that the miglias are doing

Wouldnt mind competing in the Miglia invitation class but i heavily doubt they will allow anything with 8 ports or twin cams regardless of cc. I just really fancy the idea of restoring it back to 4.5x10 wheels, steel front and plenty of period parts. Hence the reason myself, brother, father and best friend would like something we can race in the same class as what we see at silverstone. Will try and get pics up soon. It will be like a small barn find when i go to pic it up. I literally havent seen it for 5 years.

HI - Welcome in - Interesting motor you have there thats for sure - I think the invitation class would allow you to run an 8 port, one of the Mig guys asked me if i wanted to run in my 8 port but I declined - unless i could drive round the grass at the side of the track, I think as long as its a mini with a mini engine youre ok

Anyways post some pics and join in with all the other posts
