What would a front GB licenes plate look like in 1961 and 1962 ?

This site has a bunch of differnt custom vintage plates, but I still don't know which is correct.

1961 is covered by several variations:

British licence plates had digits which were three and a half inches high until 1963 when smaller, three and an eighth inch ones, were introduced to accommodate the extra 'year identification' digit system. So, 1961 would have been 3.5 inches high. Not all counties adopted this new system until 1965, when it then became mandatory for them all to do so.

Mine is a 61 and it is not pressed..... That's a later plate I think....

The early ones have each letter riveted on not pressed..

That pressed plate is correct for a 1961, with 3.5in digits. Riveted-on digits are also correct, typically in a triangular cross-section, made of aluminium or plastic, silver or white. Pressed plates usually have a border. Plates with riveted-on digits might have a shaped border painted black as part of the rest of the plate, or just a bevelled edge. The buyer of the car could choose the style. Pressed plates were the cheapest and a typically a default choice.

Plate manufacturers included Hills, Bluemels and Ace back then. Companies such as Framptons and Tippers do excellent reproductions, as do some others. I have Framptons plates on my 59, in the style of the Ace plates (polished aluminium riveted digits, quite a square-looking font) but lacking the tiny oval Ace logo across one corner.

If that is your original plate, it is first registered Offaly CC in the Irish Republic and therefore not a technically a GB plate
