I changed my '65 from hydro to dry a while back & am starting to think it might have been a mistake. The mechanic didn't give me the original parts back that he removed. My question to you is, given the variety that exists in hydrolastic displacers, are they interchangable between standard saloons across the models that came with hydro? In other words are 65, 66, 67 displacers exactly the same if they came off a bog standard Austin Mini? Or are they dated?

apart from S displacers, all others are interchangable between models as well as front to back.

There were however various different versions over the years, different valving and spring rates, as well as a variety of different conditions.

Mixing & matching is never straight forward with hydro. It can be done, but usually takes more than a little buggering about to get right. This is why you see so many hydro cars either nose or tail up, or wonky in some other way. Mixing & matching displacers IS NEVER straightforward.

Mark, so in theory if you get all displacers from the same donor car and install them in a different one it should be fine?

That is indeed the ideal way of doing it. It saves a heck of a lot of heartache in the long run.
