Mk1 subframe spacers

Does anybody know about removing front subframe tower spacers on a rubber system to give more Weber to bulkhead clearance on a classic race car? I am told that it is easily done and nothing needs altering, apart from shortening the 4 x studs or bolts.

Al

Excuse me, but there are other ways to overcome this. How much room will you gain? 2mm??
Sound like a stupid thing to do, and the subframe surely will have to be bent in some way.

and then the subframe no longer fits the floor or front panel.

The mod is done by some Mini 7 racers here and it seemingly causes no problems. I am aware it must cause some mislaignment but I suspect the rear legs give a little and make it possible. As you know Mini 7 racing is very competitive and any advantage is taken willingly. I am more interested in hearing if it a known practise than hearing the pro's and con's.

I wouldn't have thought that any modern se7en race cars used the twin bolt subframe....??

Good point but they exist here and are favoured apparently.

Funny, it is Chris who told me about it !! My thoughts are that although it would give more firewall clearance, there must be substantial misalignment and stress somewhere. My post here was to establish if it was commonly done and it doesn't seem so.
