Just back from a great day in Duns where the section of road outside the Jim Clark room was closed off and a selection of cars were demonstrated.
I have to say it wasn't a well publicised event, so only members of the Lotus clubs seemed to attend, as well as locals, but that meant we were able to get right up to the cars. All together, a very sociable and informal event for all the family.
Cars included 2 Classic Team Lotus 25s, a 23 with a twin-cam (which I think the tanoy said was Jim's '63 Nurburgring car and the prototype 23b), his red S1 Elan, his '65 Lotus Cortina (race car) which was running a fuel Injected BRM Lotus Twin-cam - and sounded glorious until it ran out of fuel on it's 3rd or 4th run. top marks to the police man who pushed it over the line!
There was also a Type 61 FF and various modern Lotuses about which I am afraid I know little to nothing.
Clik on te photo below for a Link to some more photos:
The Purple Europa belongs to a pal of mine, and we had a great blast over the moor roads on the way. Long since stripped of it's Renault 16 lump, it's a bit quick!
Not sure how to get the video of the 25 sliding awfully close to a parked Exige off my phone. sadly I didn't quite catch the drivers expression, but "eyes like dinner plates" springs to mind!

Woo Hoo!
What a great weekend!
I think it is fantastic that things were kept low key, enabling those who were there to really feel part of a great event.

Every time I look at a wheel on a 25 or similar (Bottom right of pic) , bearing in mind it was a World Championship winning car, I have a small laugh when I think of the heritage of the studs that hold it on .

I watched Clark race a 23B at Laguna Seca around 1961 or 1962. I think it had a 2.7 Climax. Dan Gurney was in the same race with a similar car.

I presume Jim Clark devotee and racer in his own right Andy Middlehurst was there (driving the Tina ?) who'd dad Phil was one of the first to race a (1071) Cooper S (beat all the works and semi works cars at the Gold Cup in 1963) and who has just started restoring a Mk1 S.

Yup, it was the Middlehurst Cortina. One of my pals was saying he had bought a car from him and had been shown a collection of Lotuses (loti?) with Clark connections at his garage. The Cortina sounded crazy!
