Well , this has got to be one of the most original mk3 mini 1000s left and i just had to give it a home
45000 miles from new , 2 previous owners from new, full dealer service history then local service history, all documented and theres nothing missing, out of place or wrong (except some 12" alloys and arches)
its quite amazing - 5 bolt bumpers , all bolted up, tool kit untouched, the interior is as it was when it left leyland - blue carpets, door seals, seats, rear parcel shelf cover -

Lovely car. Much rarer in this condition than any mk1 Cooper S.
Its practically begging for some 10 in steel wheels and to lose thse arches!!!!

Lovely to find such an original car, cant be too many like that about.
10" wheels definitely would be best, shame the wings have been drilled for the plastic arches!

Grr lol...... been looking for a good 70's mini 1000 for ages now, any that ever appear are usually at the other end of the country or never tick the right boxes.
You have a really nice original car there, ticks all the boxes and some extra ones, I would also return it to ten inch wheels.

Dare i say i only bought it for the interior, i was going to swap it over for the slightly used interior in my S rebuild then flog it on but its just stunned me- at the moment i think its my favourite car in my collection
its going back on 10s with hubcaps , im just shopping for them at the moment, i think the only thing i might do is fit a set of S brakes for safety as im not a fan at all of the drum brakes

Love it!
Glad its going back to 10s, Would it have had the Tex mirrors? I know a sensible add on! But did they come without any mirrors? or some on the wings?

When did the 1.5" SU carb come in on Mini 1000s?

Yes there tex mirrors, and judging by the look of the grub screws they have never been undone, the markings under the mirrors kind of indicate a matched pair, my first ever mini (1975 1000cc) also had 2 mirrors
I think the 1.5 SU came mid 1974, when they also got rid of the 2 pc rad cowl
The S brakes are defiantly happening , wonder if a shorrock supercharger would go well with it ??
Then again , no messing I think

The mirror is not a TEX, its a genuine British Leyland mirror, most likely a Winguard.
S brakes on a std Mini is overkill, easier to maintain yes, but not worth the time & money.

jc, you've not driven in the uk for a while I guess, the amount of blind, unobservant people pulling out of junctions and roundabouts mean that good brakes are a must!
I nearly drove my mini through the side of a people carrier the other weekend when the arse driving pulled out in front of me, he never even looked right, just came straight out onto a small roundabout
he got the horn of fury
if I hadn't have had discs I think I might be now the owner of the worlds shortest mini sprint.....

Must admit I didnt do any driving the last time I was in UK
And yes - discs are good, and will always be superior to drums,
But for a std 850 or 1000, well serviced drums, will do the job (if you dont drive like a holigan
).
My late Mothers 850 still has its original drum setup, and it never failed her in all the years, she drove it, or at any MOT.
I did a MOT job on a 63 last year, and it still had its original setup, with single front cylender, it flew through (no jokes
) its MOT.
Braked evenly on both axles, and could easely lock its front wheels, if needed.
But I also know why so many Mini,s with drums dont brake very well.
I think 2 out of 3 I have seen over the years, had the "christmas tree" missing, many people dont know how important this little spring is

And where do Cooper 998 brakes fit into these modern scenario's ? They always used to be 'just about ok' in tip top condition for road use in a standard car(Not the bacon-slicers i used to run in the '80's). Haven't driven one for a while but interested to hear other peoples viewpoint (restoring a '66 998).
Nice Mk3 !

Nice Mk3 !
I think that because they are so expensive to recondition they have just been passed over in favour of the cheaper, better, more readily available 7.5" stuff
