Hi
I bought a VD 1100 engine,Box complete, Condition unknown, Its for a project Mini Jem that i am restoring as a classic, nothing special, Decided to strip it and check everything over before fitting ,Engine is OK, One reason to strip as i am going to fit a 3.4 diff as its fitted i think with a 4.1 as it was on 12 inch wheels, , before i stripped the diff from the gearbox i could move the output shafts up and down,I stripped the diff from gearbox and was going to remove the diff bearing when the opposite side bearing fell off, then trying to remove the diff bearing it collapsed ,There is play in the the pinion diff planet gears ??? Is this normal ????, All the gears in the box look OK But it looks like there is wear in the selector ???? Anybody in the South Yorks area Rotherham, Sheffield ,Doncaster could take a look and advise me if its worn, (I will bring the gearbox to you )that's the diff and gearbox, Obvious it needs 2 diff bearings and the bushes on the output shaft covers , Is it worth spending money or would it be cheaper to buy another box????????
Thanks

From your description I think it may cost less to start with a box in better condition...
