1962 997 Project

As a reminder from my introduction topic:
I bought this 1962 997 project on eBay late last year.
The bad bits:
Missing parts: the headlining frames, instrument cowl and small instruments, air filters, front seats
Originally registered on a private plate and then given a 1963 'A' plate sometime in the eighties.
The good bits:
Heritage certificate and V5C.
Engine, gearbox, running gear all appear original
Included parts: 100mph Speedometer, new crank, spare brake calipers
And, best of all (in my opinion), it was originally Fiesta Yellow with Powder Blue interior.
So let's get going! Here's the shell at the body shop in the process of blasting.
Can anyone identify the donor shell's original colour. It almost looks metallic but surely not in 1962/63?

The shell looks to be a sound base to start the resto with.
I wish some of my projects were as tidy as that.

While the body's away we started the subframe rebuild. Rear first.
I'll rebuild the original parts at some time in the future but for this build everything will be new
The rear subframe was cut out of the original shell by the previous owner (or fell out)

I didn't think brake drums could rust away until I saw this.

I chose upgraded parts wherever possible so the rear includes:
- KAD radius arms
Minisport alloy hubs (with taper roller bearings)
Minisport adjustable toe and camber brackets
Red spot rubber cones
Poly bushes (yes I wish they weren't purple too)
HiLos
Minifin alloy drums
Started with a Heritage rear frame (not sure if it's worth the extra cash but it has the 'Mowog' stamp!)

Less unsprung weight for the shocks to deal with is the theory but I just like the way it looks

They probably put this together in 10 minutes in the factory. It took us somewhat longer.

The original front assembly - we'll recondition this some time in the future.

Someone had fitted Quinton Hazel joints in the past. Can't seem to get these any more.

Again we started with a new Heritage subframe. Lower arms and tie rods adjustable.

KAD alloy front hubs are looking good, my helper less so. Maybe I worked him too hard that day!

i would say almond green on the donor car , but not sure so early, are you going to re-do it fiesta ? hope so

I'm right with you on that one Slowboy! I only bought it because it was Fiesta.

Looking good, your right to do it like you want it. It's going to be yours to ENJOY. Luck man I would love to find a fiesta yellow cooper or s project. I see you have a keen apprentice to, it great to have family involved my 7 year old is brain washed into cars ( so the wife says). Keep to photos coming.

This clever sleeve apparently avoids cutting a groove for the abutment and therefore a weak point.
