Red V5c Registration document?

Post by mab01uk »

Have the new Red V5c Registration documents been issued to all cars now........including those that have been on SORN for several years and those untaxed before SORN came in?
ie. If you still have a Blue V5c on any off the road classic do you need to contact DVLA to get a current red V5 replacement?

You should automatically get a red V5, whether your vehicle is on the road or not as this is a systematic replacement due to theft of some blue V5's some time ago. The actual official word is "we are replacing all existing V5c's & you should destroy the blue one". I don't really know what all this will achieve, last time I went to get a MOT, I forgot about the red V5 & gave them the old blue one & no one said a word about it.

I think the gradual replacement of the "blue" V5s is still ongoing. One of my cars has not yet been issued with the new "red" type.

I have found that cars that were untaxed before the SORN started, weren't sent a new red book. If you phone DVLA they will issue a new one.

I think this is a way of DVLA thinning out the number of 'unknown' old cars out of the system.

Thanks for the advice. I will phone DVLA for updated V5c.

The estimated additional cost of issuing the new red V5C is £5.5m. An estimated total of 19 million documents issued......
