Re: drive shafts?!?!?!?!??!?!
to be fair, they are not as stupid as they look
in rallying where there is a lot of steering input or hard wheel impact the standard disc outer c.v is very weak, this is why people move up to the larger shafts and the allegro 1500 (or even the 1750) size c.v as its a far stronger joint as the balls and cage is larger
I guess these where an attempt to achive the same sort of reliability.

Re: drive shafts?!?!?!?!??!?!
i bought a spanish mini in the early 70's and it came with double u joints instead of cv joints.i don't recall the diameter of the axles as this was 40 years ago. large trucks (2.5 ton and up) use this setup on 2 or 3 piece drive shafts with huge u joints. jw

Re: drive shafts?!?!?!?!??!?!
Does the double universal joint arrangement produce constant velocity ? I know that a single one doesn't. Any engineers out there ?
Re: drive shafts?!?!?!?!??!?!
When these were on Ebay, I phoned a friend of mine and told him to buy them because they were used and tested on Mini Mokes from about 64-65. They were designed to give more movement on the suspension side. If you look at the design of them they weren't a design suitable for a lot of road use. I've left it until now because the Ebay sale is now finished
