Hi,
Does anybody do accurate reproductions of original oil cooler hoses? I've never seen any that are much like what should be.

Regards
Al

Funny you should mention this, I was talking about the possibility of doing these only last week.

The complication is the metal fitting with the kink in it. These would have to be made & would not be cheap in small batches.

I have a 1275 Mk1 S and run it with no Oil cooler. I have yet to come across either the pipes or the cooler although I have never made any real effort to find them.It is something I need to do but I am in no real rush. I do know a couple of guys who run firms that do hydraulic hoses and precision engineering. Very handy blokes. If anybody can provide me with decent pics or some originals to make copies from I would be happy to investigate price and possibility? Otherwise I would be keen to hear how far you have got with your research Mark. Best wishes. The 'other' Mark.

they reused the end fittings, and just put new crampet collars on them.

I've just bought some originals off e-Pay Australia, so I will have some to measure and photograph in a few days.

I feel a "Project" coming on. If anyone has an original set I can borrow as samples then I will give them a free new set as or if I manage to get them re made accurately.

I have the set in the picture spare. Are they the same as you are looking for ?

I thought there should be a bend on one end pipe.

Hi Iain,
They don't look like any I've seen. The ones that I think are correct are those I've pictured above. Are there numbers on the tags attached to the hoses? I've got some longer ones with an AUD number marked on similar aluminium tags.

Al

Hi Al

The tag has AHT3 8 65 T CW94688 and the other AHT4 then the same numbers.

So they are probably made up pipes. The came off a mk2 S a long time ago.

Your hoses are the competition ones. Part numbers C-AHT3 / C-AHT4.
Think 8 65 is week/month? 1965. Old rubber? Ex works? ;)
Hoses/tags should be worth something on Ebay.
Seems to recall some other marking on the nut flats to. Aero-something?

AHT3 & AHT4 were the ST pipes referred to above.

Was the ST parts section just like a customer "add on" list or could they have been used in a works car preparation ?

The ST parts section in the back of the AKD parts list were all parts available (usually to special order) to the general public. Although some of these parts were indeed used on works cars there is no real works connection as such.

Rumor has it that Mark is more into American cars these days,so he forgets that most works
cars competed in group 1 and group 2. They where only allowed to use parts that were in the manufacturer's catalog.

And then there were loopholes.....

Ha, ha, ha!

What Tulka says is of course true, but then, so is what I say above.

Apart from the stuff about only being into Jeeps of course

Hi guys, been offline for a while. If I can share my bit, I can say that Special Tuning oil cooler pipes were made by AT LEAST 2 different suppliers, and there were differences between the two, even if they had the same numbers (namely AHT 3 and AHT 4). I have a memo from the Comps (in copy only...!) that states: USE COMPETITION OIL COOLER TUBES FROM ****** SUPPLIER, AS THE ONES MADE BY ++++++ SUPPLIER SEEM TO CRACK UNDER STRESS.
Now I will have to fish out the actual note, so to tell you all guys.
Anyhow, differences are here:
SUPPLIER +++++++pipes made with textured rubber, part number on alloy tags attached to the rubber tubes (those were possibly early ones) i.e. there are IAIN's ones.
SUPPLIER ******* pipes made with a more shiney rubber, part number engraved on the metal joints, more sturdy look.

A strange thing is that none of those had the metal "elbow" found on the standard oil cooler hoses, just beneath the generator, but they are all rubber.

Hope having said something useful.

Cheers

Paul
