Is there any way of getting a 7 port Alexander head under a round nose bonnet without haviing to cut holes in the bonnet for the carbs?

In short, NO.

You certainly can't get SUs under a round nose bonnet, even with some serious chopping of the dashpot and manifold. Amals may be an option on some short manifolds.

FI could also be an option.

Thanks for the responses, I was expecting a no.

Don't fancy Fuel Injection, Amals are interesting but I believe they are a bit rubbish, I notice that you can buy them new though.

Looks like I'll be sticking with 5 ports then :-)

A nice Speedwell head would be a better option, I think Mark has one or two for sale :)

Indeed I did, thats going on the pickups new engine over winter, I also have one of your GT heads which i bought from your lovely, but very dangerous for sale section a while back.

However I am considering the engine for my Woody, when it is restored of course, and whilst i have enough bits for a Speedwell Courier replica, apart from carbs, i think it may be fun to have a different engine rather than run two Speedwell converted style ones.

I was considering selling the GT head and going down the Alexander route, but holes in the bonnet are a no no, it has to look completely standard externally.

Time to get all my old mini books out and look for some inspiration I guess.
