well i was wondering if anyone had any info on this. i just had a lovely 1960s car radio fitted into my 970s however not knowing the radio itself was actually past it even though it looked mint!. i heard you can get people now to basically refurb the inside but still keep the outer shell and it will also be able to play fm/am radio?

if anyone can give me info on this it would be very much appreciated

thanks in advance

yeah had a look at those ones its nice but i cant justify paying over 300 for it i wouldnt mind if i was buying the radio from them aswell but youre actually giving them the radio so all thats really happening is puting the hardware inside the casing. just a bit pricey in my eyes might just be me though

Radio Shack used to sell a box that fitted on the aerial lead and converted an AM radio to FM. Not that expensive at the time either.

There's a thing called Redirad which plugs in line with the antenna and will convert an older AM radio to FM and MP3 player input, but it will still be in mono and it relies on the radio working in AM band to begin with.

I dont use the radio at all, as its AM/LM, and only if I have passengers with me, do I push a cartrigde / tape in.

Its nice that it works, but I dont bother about music when I drive.

I have recently modified 3 mono radio's to accept mp3 input. A Motorola 114 just fitted to my 998 Cooper, a Radiomobile 1070 for my Mk 3 S and a Radiomobile 80x for a friends MGB.
This is a hobby, playing with electronics, but depending on the make and model of radio I may be able to help out.
I use mine with either my iPhone or an iPod. The advantage is that not only do you have mp3, you also have the option to use the FM radio on the iPod.
Cheers,
Paul.
