Speedwell Rocker Cover

Post by mk1 »

Its actually a Motortune one, lovingly engraved by someone.

Speedwell never did an alloy rocker cover.

As a matter of interest that stamp is a copy of Speedwells Return post stamp, its what they stamped their parcels with so that if they were lost in the post they would be returned to sender.

An unadulterated one c/w filler cap for 1/2 the price. That's a bit more like it.

Is the second one about the right money for one of these?

I have one lurking in the garage and I'm with Andy - it is as ugly as hell! Might end up on ebay if it's worth £50+

The last one I sold I got £50 for it, I was very happy with that, as I agree they are bloody ugly.

I'm another vote for ugly.

But, if you can buy one for less than £50 nowadays you have done very well.

Got to agree, that is one ugly mother.

I have bought and sold a few bits off the first guy and he's usually spot on, and has some nice stuff. Pretty sure it was him that bought my mag minilites.

GraemeC - Is your cover complete? And does it say Speedwell on it like the one on Ebay?

I quite like it - it has a nice period look about it.

Mark you state Speedwell didnt make an alloy cover... are you sure? I have had a couple over the years, they have the Speedwell boot badge cast into them.... or are they a New Zealand only deal !!

It may be fake, but i like it.

I used to own a copy of a Sprinzel engraved rocker cover which I bought many years ago from Len, I never took to the shape though and ended up selling it, it popped up again in one of the latest mini magazines, can't remember which one now.

I am ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN that Speedwell Performance Conversions Ltd. & the two following companies Speedwell (1969) Ltd. & Speedwell of Chesham Ltd. NEVER made an alloy rocker cover or sold an alloy rocker cover under their brand name.

Any alloy rocker covers that are offered as "Speedwell" alloy rocker covers are either fake, fan made items or knocked up by some tuppeny hapeny Speedwell wannabe company.

I have seen one of the antipodean "Speedwell" Covers & they look like a garage job to me.

Mine is complete, as in it has the flip top cap and the breather take off.
As per Mark's explanation - it is and original Motortune one and therefore has not had any 'fake' Speedwell engravings added.

It has been chemically stripped and cleaned and is ready to refinish in the style of your choice ;)

Its a pretty poor casting as Mark says. Not a fan of the motortune myself, but absolutly love the Broadspeed one.
