I am making a list(lenghty) of panels to restore my MKI and I was wondering what are peoples thoughts on floors. Is it better to fit a complete floor or keep the tunnel and put in two halves. It will be M-Machine floors I will be using.

This is very much a matter of personal choice, but I always keep the tunnel & replace the floor in 2 halves, provided, of course, that the tunnel is in good condition. That way you maintain the distance between toe & heel board, without any doubt.

Being a panel beater since way back I prefer most of the work already done and M-Machine does it for you at a reasonable price too.

I think it is the preferred way to repair a floor if its very scaled with rust as mine. If it isn't half or quarter section should be fine.

I was surprised when my full floor came from MM only that it was half floors welded neatly to the center tunnel.

Just so,,,, very impressed with their construction and welding of a full floor as its hard to do better than they did.

Just my opinion.

I have just used 2 halves to do my floor . They were m machine panels . It works out cheaper and the panels are so nice to fit i would recomend doing it this way . Also welding it in 2 halves enables you to leave as in my case the exhaust tunnel and crossmember for that added strength so it not all floping about .

I used Mini Machine half floors on my pick up.

If the tunnel is useable then halves is the way to go. Do one side at a time and you still have over half of the original floor section in place to help keep the dimensions as BMC intended.

Thanks for the input,I was leaning towards the two halves to kee[ the distances correct and the tunnel is about the only part of the floor that is saveable.

The 2 halves is a much cheaper way of doing it, but the complete floor is a terrific panel!!

If I had major floor works to do again I'd go the full floor route, much easier to keep everything square & true with this than the two halves.

I have just received 2 half floors from M-Machine and wondered what people do when it comes to stitching the floor to the exhaust tunnel? Tack & seam weld then linish inside? (The M-Machine complete floor looks stepped? I guess you then have to seam seal this join?)

i wish the half floors were available when i restored some of mine all of those years ago...
all we could get back then was MELBROS or POP-ON pattern "footwell panels"

saying that ..i have a car that had MELBROS floor repair sections and the "incorrect pattern" 4 vent sills fitted in 1984 and they are still as good as new...
