Just received my block back from dip n strip. What is the best thing I can paint it with as a primer to stop it flash-rusting?
Cheers. Mark

How long do you plan on leaving it standing for?? If its not long the how about a coating of oil/wd40. In fact I suppose if your leaving it for a while then a nice thick oil would Last a goo while. Then when your ready to paint give it a clean with brake/clutch cleaner:)

I use the Minispares green paint directly to bare blocks. Works fine.

etch primer is good but must be overcoated quickly as it is acid based and porous,,
not good for long term storage
if its left for over a month, the primer will need a quick rub over with a red scotchbrite to regain full paint adhesion

Thanks for your input. I rushed in last night to get some paint on it ASAP. My wife thought some kind of emergency procedure was taking place and wondered where the blue lights were.
The can specifically states anti-corrosion BTW so I guess it must have some characteristics that prevent rust.

its acid etch...all etch primers with acid base do this...but its not a long term storage primer.....
its designed to be overcoated after solvent flash off, really
warning,,acid etch primer is carcinogenic,,so wear a good mask

Thanks, it feels carcinogenic every time I have used it. Yesterday I painted outside and it still seems to gets hold of your lungs. Thanks for the H&S warning. Will not be using again without a decent mask.

its difficult working on your mini when strapped to an "iron lung "
i know a few ex sprayers who have fallen prey to the ravages of etch primer
shame coz they were good painters...i was a good boy,,i always used a respirator...and im still here enjoying my old cars
