Hi there, where can I get those solid type rivets to fix the rocker cover plates as from original?
Also, is there a special tool to put them on?

Is it cut the end and punch it fat?

You can cut a rivet to the length required.

The "punch" or setting tool supports the rounded head of the rivet & the tail is hammered down to set (or fix) the rivet. A round headed ball pein hammer is best for this.

Practice a few first Ted as they are harder to get looking just right than I expected, I also put the smallest dab of hylomar on the rivet on the outside of the cover just as a belt and braces measure as with my luck I would get a right mess blow out.

Believe it or not, I am so old that I was taught how to set rivets in metalwork when I was at school!

When you are doing a rocker cover label, I would suggest you put the setting tool in a vice, pointing up. Rest the rivet head (facing out) in the setting tool then lightly hammer the tail down from the inside. It is useful if you cvan grow a 3rd hand when attempting this.

im like mark,,i was shown how to use these in metalwork,,the teacher even had us re lining his series 2 landrover brake shoes ,,,while he smoked his cigarettes!!!!!

i have a gold seal engine in the cherry red 60 deluxe and sombody has put the original tags on the gold seal rocker cover with these rivets...

i shall take a pic next time im at the lock up....the state of it is .....unbelievable

must have been on the "double diamond" while he was attempting to fit them,,the plates are almost destroyed by stray hammer blows and the rivets look like pieces of well chewed gum!

I must admit to cheating when I did this, the cover didn't have any holes in it, so the 'rivets' are the bottom dome from a normal pop rivet stuck to the cover along with the plates, guess I will have to put a dribble of oil on them for that authentic look

100% repro with a bit of a de-bling to age it slightly, it will do the job though, if it had been real it would have got proper rivets !

Why can't see the tails of the rivets? Are they the same type?

Nice cover and badge! Now don't shoot me! I bought this badge ages ago when there is no nice repro as yours! Can you tell me where can I get this one? I'd like to replace those hollow, oil leaking rivets as well!

Some original covers I have seen would appear to have pop rivets on one plate and solid on the other, not sure which way round though!

ive seen a lot of cowley built austins with the pop rivets on the "austin tag" .and punch rivets on the weslake tag

i assume they were fitting austin tags to the morris tagged engines on the production line at cowley

Ted if you want to send that FJ rocker cover over I'll gladly tell you where I got the badge......

It's one from www.downton.com they are quite highly chromed so I just spent some time with 1200 to tone it down slightly.

that type of solid rivet is exactly how aircraft are put together. i have many many many rivets like that in my garage along with the rivet snaps and block. you can normally pick the snaps up on ebay for an ok price.

The rivets holding in the HRG nameplate are just an interference fit... similar to these:
