Does anybody know if the mainshaft, lay shaft and gears from a mk3 four sychomesh gearbox can be fitted in a mk1 gearbox housing with a magic wand gear lever ?

But you could try and get hold of a Van / pickup 4 synchro with conversion for magic wand lever.
My Dad's built a few of those

The box Ceejam refers to is an excellent solution to this problem, but they are few & far between.
