My 62 Mini pickup, she is exactly two weeks younger than me, although in somewhat better condition. I got her last year from FleeBay, she was restored about 8 years ago to a reasonable level, she will need some more work in a few years but will be fine for a while.

Image

She is pretty standard at them moment, apart from the red Clubman seats and the ex MOD 850 (+20) engine, but she goes quite well. Here she is at Beaulieu recently.

Image

Once our house move is completed, and I get my garage :D I will be dropping a Shorrock blown 850 or 1040, depending on timings in to her, with a Speedwell dash and some decent seats. and maybe some slightly less garish carpets as well.

She normally lives in my brothers garage, but here she is out in some recent snow.

And here at Gaydon last year, 2 days after buying her.

Great photo, finally someone who is using the car, as it was ment to 8-)

I cant recall just how many times, I have been driven around sitting in the back, of one of these ;)

Dont worry, it was all ok & safe -- the tilt was on  the 60 & 70ies were different times.

talking about unsafe, when i was a nipper and i had the oportunity to go with my dad to the tip (which was like the best thing in the world) i used to get to ride in the trailer on the way home! part of the journey home is on ome of the most bumpy of roads then a dual carriage way! he used to say to me, 'now, if you see the police lay down' i was about 6 years old!!! haha loved it though! so much fun!

great looking pick up you have there pall

After much deliberation I have decided I don't have the time or the talent to build my pickups new engine and box, so as a 50th birtday present to both of us I loaded all the relevent bits into the pickup yesterday and dropped it off at my local historic racing specialists for them to build the engine for me. What a slacker!

here it is all loaded up, got to love pickups :-) I'm not using all of it, as the astute amongst you will have noticed an excess of gearboxes and heads, just the best of the bits.

First signs are good, looks like the 1040 block is sound.

Image

I will be replacing both subframes over winter in readyness for the shiny new engine, and upgrading the brakes of course as well as sorting the interior out and installing a new dash, so with the engine being built up at the same time I hope to have the old girl ready for next seasons shows.

Nice pick up, good to see it being used too. It will make a nice project although doesn't look too shabby to start with!
Wonder should I change the saloon for a pickup? Me and 'er indoors could have a peaceful journey and the kids can travel in the back
Strange I've often thought of changing my Disco for a Defender pickup for the same reason!

Thanks, its not as good as it looks but should be good for a few more years before its needs some more work.

Just got back from CCK to pick up the numerous gearbox casings and bits we aren't going to use, here's a couple of pictures of the pickups new heart being built. Very pleased with the quality of the work.

The 1040 block, all clean and shiny

Image

The Colotti gears in the NOS gearbox casing. The gears are a mix of the best from 2 sets, the others aren't bad so will do as spares. The mag casing is rough on the flanges so we didn't use it, I may take a look to see if its salvagable, i have a spare set of colotti gears so it would be rude not to use them.

Image

And the Speedwell head, we have decided to replace the springs but are going to use the Speedwell rockers.

The Shorrock has also had a helicoil on a dodgy thread, so we are making very good progress.
