Just wondering is the above possible to do? Reason I ask is someone I was talking to yesterday has a Mini with Mk1/2 doors but everything else is later??? (I may add I've not actually seen it yet but he insists it is thus)

I have fitted external hinges on my race Min (MK III) but the doors are completely cut out on the inside, and have plastic windows

Is it a UK body? Australian Minis had external hinges until the end of production in 1978.

This is a later mini with what appears to be some form of modified hinges attached to a non-mk1 door, you might be able to send a message asking for details?
She's not exactly all to my taste, but doesn't look like a bad mini at all from the pictures at a reasonable price.
Hope this helps

Here's a hinge kit from a UK based firm. A bit pricey.

And here's the Japanese ones which have benn around for a while

Hmmm we're sort of getting there, spoke to him again last night and he tells me it's the full door (ie sliding windows/door bins/external hinges?)...but other than that it's all 1980's Mini...I've asked for pictures but they've not yet turned up...cheers all so far

This is BY FAR the hardest way to do this. Most of this type of conversion involves putting ext hinges on a late pattern door. To make a MK1 door fit a late pattern shell IS VERY DIFFICULT! The shape is completely different.
If I was you I would hang fire to see some decent pictures, & if you don't mind I would really like to see them posted here.

Sounds like an old 'un with modern trim Bryn, if it's not I wouldn't touch it with a proverbial.

know sombody who dropped the roof line on a later car to take mk1 doors by welding the top door frame off an old door into the top of the door aperture..fitting mk1" a" pillars and skins and grafting 2 back wing sections in off a scrapped mk1
the results actually were very good,,,though im sure he should put his welding and filler skills to better use...

I have done this, albeit with lightweight mk3 doors. To fit mk1/2 would require a huge amount of work and it's just never going to be worth the effort. I used a mk1 inner A-panel and mk3 outer, the doors are double skinned where the hinges attach. All the unnecessary holes on the A-post have been welded up. I don't have any pictures of the end result, so here are the best I have.
