That's hilarious ! Well and truly owned.

Mr Weasel has gone and removed his description (probably out of embarassment) here's the original listing from him with the description ...

Slightly different version of events there, barn find dry stored for thirty years..

You'd have been totally delighted to have bought this car and then found this out
Somebody could still get their eye wiped.

I'm confused now... :?
Do I take it the guy now selling it has painted it (roughly) and that's that or what?? Disclaimer...(I do have a cold and have had several glasses of Merlot)

Well the synopsis Bryn is that said seller is trying to palm off said Woody as a dry stored barn find when in actual fact it's been rotting in a field, welded all over the shop, given a quick aerosol spray over and rubbed flat to give it the look of Pat and Tina. Quite a work of art really, bit like the Minis thrown out the back of the bus on the Italian Job. Special effects, it could be a new career for him !

First there was faking cooper's and S's

Now there is faking barn finds, and creating patina

What's next

It's the magic "barn find" craze that seems to add immense value to almost everything, try entering those magic words on an eBay search to see how many results you get! The impression that its an original, untouched car lovingly parked up by great uncle Fred in 1972 etc make it more desirable and valuable than cars that have been used and had parts and panels changed over time.

its funny, all the cars that i have ever bought that where left for years in barns / garages have always suffered as a result of the location they where stored.......

I remember discussing with a pal of mine who owns a large and very characterfull barn on his Sussex farm that he could make a fortune - His family own a Type 35 Bugatti, a lovely XK120, Minors and Austin 7s amongst other nice toys - simply buy a load of toot off Ebay, stick it into the barn next to the 'good stuff' and stuff it back on ebay - easy money!

It may actually have worked for him on more than one ocassion......

I beleieve it's called 'marketing'

I don't really see a problem. The guy bought it fair and square, gave it a going over and still sold it as a car needing work. I suspect it was the large profit that made the first Guy so irate. Never mind.

The second guy MISS DESCRIBED what he was selling. You can argue that nearly everyone selling anything does the same, whether its someone selling a second hand car or for that matter a supermarket selling a budget lasagne ;-)

It doesn't make the mis description "right" though.

I for one was very glad to see seller no 2 get his comeuppance.
