Hi Folks. I will be stripping 2 gearboxes in the coming weeks both of which are 3 sync type. I have stripped and built 4 sync boxes before but as I recall I will need several special tools. Would somebody tell me what I need or what I need to make to do this please. Pictures would be even better. For the record, one box is a 22G333 with straight cut gears, the other is an early 998 Cooper box the numbers evade me at the moment. Thanks in advance. Mark

there are no special tools that you will need for a 3 sync that you wont have for a 4 sync, they are just worse to strip due to the first motion having to go inwards as it wont pass through the bearing hole in the case.
my recomendation would be to buy some old spanners that suit the fork pinch nuts and locking nuts and spend a bit of time bending the spanners to give your self a set that will give a 'straight pull', they are very difficult to get access to with normal flat spanners.
3 syncs are real temper testers though, they are really fiddly!
