Is it a new seal that you have got - Just had this exact problem with a friends car - threw the seal away and put an old one back on -the new seals are not profiled correctly or to stiff....

Just an idea

How's the hinge on the front? About to break? I had to trim the seal lip on the hinge area so my windows could close well - similar problem but I was more worried about the hinges breaking.

I've done the same.

trimming the seal around the hinge was something that was done in the 1960s to help with this problem, ive seen a couple of 'barn find' cars that have had this done

Thank you so much for your answers,

The seal is brand new

The hinge is really good,

So you seem to think that I need to cut it?

The seal may need to "running in"??

Thank you

It's really odd..

Do you think my seal is well fitted?

maybe in the bad direction?

It comes frome minispares, maybe a bad repro?

This is something I have considered myself.... but never got around to check.

What exactly is the diff between Mk1/2 and Mk3+ seals - other than the size that is..?

And if Mk3 seals fit... why even bother trying to use Mk1/2 types?

Also - what about door seals? Will a Mk3 or later seal fit a Mk1?

Dear Sandman,

In my opinion:

1)quarter seal

You can put the mk3 seal on mk1/2/3

It fits perfectly,

The mk1 seal (repro) doesn't allow the window to close properly,

2) Door seal

You have to put mk3 seal on all cars with internal hinges

You have to put mk1/2 seal on car with external hinges, they are a little bit difficult to fit, but it's a good repro, even though the rubber isn't very supple..

There are 2 different types of rear 1/4 window seal on a mk3 , my early 70 car has rather thin flimsey seals but my later car 72 has thicker seals - ill take some piccys

Yes exactly,

But when you want to buy repro during a restoration,
you only have two choices, isn't it?
