I have always loved the 1070 & have tuned a lot of them, more in fact than any other Mini engine.
My 1071 hillclimber gave 86 at the wheels back in the 80's & was good enough for Harry Ratcliffe to judge it as "A good un"! While I have built many road going units that have proven to be pretty fast & reliable. Usually using a 544.
I'll write some more a bit later when I have more time.
Suffice to say for the moment, the 1071 is my favourite Mini engine ever. The smoothness of a 970 with torque more akin to the 1275. A good compromise unit.

I was thinking of going down the line of an 8 port cylinder head with a turbo probably not the best idea though

Very interesting!
I am at the moment on building a 1071 with Arden Head and Tecalemite Injection.
Mark, what have you done with the main Bearing Caps? Did you use the original ones with the Screws or did you change to ARP "s"-type Bolts with Nuts?

8 port 1071, that is an odd combo.
Not really, it just doesn't fall into an easily defined competition class. Rather like the 1071 itself.

I would like an original head.
Why bother, the current incarnation of the Arden head that has been redesigned / re tooled by Minispares is externally identical but is MUCH better than the originals in internal design & tuning potential.

Hi,
Even the old on is not bad. No thermal problems at all. It might be limited to 1300ccm motors and one have to care the valve guides. We just installed self made stepped guides and there seems to be no more problem with.

When fitting the new head with short inlets and Weber's under a standard bonnet, a better thermodynamics of the head may not necessarily bring better results. Or is this wrong?

I don't believe the thermodynamic properties of the head have ben changed over much, the main redesign was in the inlet & exhaust port alignment & shape.

flow configuration should be part of thermodynamics. But this was I asked for. The problems of flow seems to be in front and not inside the head?

True, but I assumed (wrongly) that you were confusing the Minispares redesign of the Arden head with the somewhat fabled redesign / re manufacture of the Weslake head, one of the prime aims of this redesign was to alter the cooling characteristics to improve reliability.
BTW, has anyone heard anything from Mr Daniels recently?

maybe, but we do not collect, we race! We still missed the 2011 final due to these problems, and now want to have some results this year. The last two climbs, the Arden enabled us to beat the actual European champion with his Ferrari and some more Porsches, Alpine … The FIA has permitted the Arden for our mini and this why I have to follow this way now.
