Have you considered a reshell. I might prove quicker, easier and cheaper to go for another shell? There is bound to be one somewhere on e bay. The shell you have will probably gobble up £1200 plus in new panels, need a lot of time/prep welding and then you need to factor in prep and repaint at say £1200 upwards. Plus a margin for overspend/error and you have to look at £3000 just to get the shell finished. If you are being objective then I guess you need to ask yourself what do you think your car will be worth when completed before you go tipping your hard earned in to this project? Best of luck. Mark

Maybe, but if you're making the decision purely on financial grounds remember that the MINI would be depreciating in value while the Mini would be appreciating.
Although if you spend say £5500 on a car that is realistically worth £1500-2000 then you might argue that you are £4000 backwards before you start. I suspect you would have to wait a long time to realise the appropriate amount of 'appreciation' of a 79 Mini 1000.
I am with Lowrider on this. Buy a BMW Cooper S for £3500. Run it for 12-18 months months and probably draw your dough back.
If not do £500 in and enjoy the ride. This way you don't have to suffer arc eye, untold scraped knuckles and the indignity of a break down once a fortnight plus a nasty dent in your bank balance every time you visit your local Mini parts suppliers.
The r53 MINI's hold price fine to be fair and really its it worth the hassle id like a mark 1 but I;m never gonna get one of them any time soon so best to let this go now. and buy one later in life
Ill regret it but I guess it might be best decision
