Looks like JBL494D which I think was owned by Rob Lawrence at some point after the works sold it. I also noticed Roger Clarks's Acropolis winning Escort TC, XOO254F, which I have driven. Happy days!

Rob Lawrence had JMO 969D after its works career. JBL 494D was owned by Adrian Boyd.

Here's Paddy, Clark and Ytterbring on the same rally ('68 Circuit Of Ireland), Ytterbring also crashed out.

Is the car crashing in the video Adrian Boyd in JBL ? If so it was rebuilt for the following year..

Simon776 is correct, Adrain Boyd had JBL and Rob Lawrence had JMO. It's not JBL crashing, it finished best Mini that year behind the new Twin Cam Escort, then finished third the following year,69, behind Clark and Hopkirk. The photo shows it in later form, Group 6 with alloy panels, big arches and JAP Magna wheels. I am pretty sure car 29 going 'off' is Dessie McCartney, Ronnies brother.

Up until early last year my dad owned JBL, we bought it from Ireland 26 years ago, it's last international was the 76 Donegal.

My apologies, I stand corrected, got my archives a bit jumbled, must have had a senior moment, it was indeed Adrian Boyd who owned 'JBL'

Just came across a great article in an old issue of CCC. It's about tuner Graham Cooper of Birmingham who'd built a racer for a client named William Cole. Quote: "The Cole Mini's shell was the Makinen works shell used on the '66 Monte, but bears no resemblance."

But that Makinen '66 Monte shell was supposed to be this one...

My bullshit detector has gone into meltdown so many times when looking at these 'surviving' cars I decided years ago to just assume (probably unfairly) that they're all a load of b*ll*x , makes life easier.

Since the Makinen 66 Monte car has just been mentioned, the Aaltonen one has now appeared in Dudley Pike's book (see separate thread).........destruction testing at Strata Florida.

Not sure on that clip on Youtube that Simon Taylor is narrating but the original clip of the COI is from a Ford motorsport video that I had a copy of about twenty years ago. There's not much more Mini footage in it though (understandably) I don't recll. Can't remember the name of it but I'm sure I launched the video a good while ago!
