fitting maniflow freeflow ?

the new engine going in the "60s spec" mk1 super very shortly...got the mg1100 lump all rebuilt ready to go,with a early 846 4 sync box converted to magic wand fitted.

running the twin hs2 set up on a 998 cooper manifold (bigger ports than the mg1100),and using a new maniflow freeflow manifold

will the maniflow slot in from top when engine is fitted before i fit the carbs or am i better fitting the block without the head,,bolting the mounts up then slotting the maniflow down,,then fitting the head afterwards
??

any tips for a smooth engine fit job?

The Maniflow will just fit in before you fit the carbs, but you will have to leave the driver's side coupling out. I have often fitted the Maniflow before putting the head on the engine in the car, sometimes it is easier, depending on what order you assemble the engine etc.

the heads not bolted on yet,,so maybe i should chuck the block in,,bolt up the mounts,chuck in the maniflow then build the carbs up in situ....
maybe im makin it hard work,,but so is strugglin with a manifold in a tight freshly painted bay

In the long and distant past I used to place the engine "in the hole" with the head on, but didn't attach the bolts for the engine mounts or the top engine steady.
I would then "lean" the engine forwards in the engine bay, prop it with a lump of timber, then feed the manifold down the back of the engine.
You may have to twist the manifold 90 degrees (to the engine) to feed it past the driveshaft coupling.
The job was made easier because I was using Hardy Spicer joints, but you should have enough space to feed past a rubber coupling.

i fitted mine in there with the head on, and all the engine steadies removed. i also had to remove the rubber cross to get the manifold in there.
all i remember saying was, it would be easier to bolt it up the the motor and drop the whole thing in as one.
