Holy shit, 4.33am, a very rude awakening felt like a freight train coming through the house, pitch black the whole place shaking wildly with the sound of objects breaking and falling all around, me and the wife staggard out of bed and headed for the kids rooms stumbling over all the debris on the way, got the kids into the kitchen and got everyone under the kitchen table and hung on tight for what seemed like forever.
Could'nt believe how unprepared we were for this, it was hard to locate a torch, matches or candles in the pitch black and panic of the moment.
Needless to say we have come out the other side fairly unscathed with only minor damage, the garage was in a bit of a mess but the mini's survived any damage.
I hav'nt had the chance to speak to any other NZ Mk1 members so far as we have only had a telephone line and power for a few hours.

Meg and I were up at the sounds at the time and didn't feel a thing

Got an early morning text from Shylo asking how we were, and wondered why he was asking...

Arrived home a few hours ago and not much damage luckily. I had 4 S wheels on top of the shelf at the back of the garage, and they were on the floor, a bit bent but none of them landed on the car. The 1275 motor on the floor had fallen over too.

Drove through town and was amazed by the damage to all the old brick buildings.

Hi guys, we came through relatively unscathed too. A few small low cost things broken and all my model cars took a self-drive off the shelf. One or two are write-offs but not valuable. In my workshop, a few things fallen over, some paint cans on the floor but no spills. It was one hell of a shake, I can tell you.

Glad to hear all our Kiwi members are OK, I can't help but think we are all very lucky.

I'm very relieved to hear that apart from a few badly stained trousers and a few fallen over things you have all got away with it.

It can't be the best way to wake up in the middle of the night though.

Hi Guys.

My garage and the 2 minis inside tried to slide down the driveway. I have a inch 1/2 crack when it joins the house. Looks like the roof joists has stoped it going further.

minis OK but house has some nasty cracks all around it. Looking at the rest of my road we are actually lucky. I'd say 60% of my street will be pulled down.

Had a 5.1 this morning, they origionally thought it was a 6.0, until they realised that it was from a totally different direction and only 6Ks away, and was also 6ks down
Most people are getting very down about it all now as there is talk of another "big One"

It was on our news 2 O,clock this night/morning, not good lets hope it dont comes to that.
