Hi decided to strip down the mk1 I bought and have just found a number stamped into the stiffener on the drivers side crossmember to inner wing.

Is this a chassis number it would be nice if it is as I never got any paper work with it and only the FE number remains as the ones on the floors were a little chrispy

on the angle section, there should be a very crudely, stamted number using the last digits of the chassis number,this is on the really early shells,r/hside

Hi thanks for the reply that's the place were it is. It's 6 digits long.

When I first bought the car I rang heritage centre and they told me there could be a chassis number stamped in it but I hadn't found it as there was that much underseal brushed on all over the thing.

He told me it was a 1964 car and when I asked if there was any paperwork he said no it had been scrapped years ago.

Will this number obtain a heritage certificate?

If so what happens if someone already has it on a later shell or something?

I've now set the ball rolling with the heritage centre last Monday to see if they can shed any light on the car. I'm extremely excited but the 28 days to wait(21 now) is killing me!!! Am I been a dreamer or is it just easier to buy a complete car(Project or finished). It's mounted on the rollover spit waiting for the outcome. I'm planning a work in progress thread after reading quite a few on here as it really does seem to motivate you seeing all the hard work others are doing.

Mine is also a 64 and though I had gotten Swedish paperwork, it didn't have the model identification (and the car didn't either).
The number on the stiffener was the same number on the paperwork, A quick email to Heritage (and £5) confirmed that to be the chassis number, and the body number they supplied also matched the one on my slam panel. They also informed me it was a Morris 850 (MA2S4L)

I'm in the exact same position, ive got a cooper shell, its got a cooper vin plate on it, but i didnt get any paperwork, its not essential i have it as it's unlikely to be used on the road, but i'm worried if i persued it, I could open up a can of worms

Hi thanks for the replys it's defiantly not a cooper shell only a 850 as people pointed out when I posted pics. I'm just a little nostalgic and it would be nice to restore it with the correct number on it or age related as you say tho I could open a can of worms if it ended up on something else. Maybe I'm looking on the down side of things and its all perfectly ok but who knows!! I've read a few times that this sort of thing has happened.

Well good news the heritage centre has confirmed it as a Austin mini 850, built July 64, almond green(originally), with a fresh air heater as a option.
Still waiting on the certificate tho to see where it was despatched tooand any other info they can give me.

Was it Longbridge built or one of the Cowley ones?

Does anyone else have identified this number yet ?
Would be a chance for me !
