After reading Vizard, your led to believe that the 1300GT rods don't have the big balancing pads that regular 1300 ones do. I found this picture on the internet:



I've been modifying a dozen set of rods the last couple of years, many sets of 1300GT ones as well, but they have all had the big pad. Could anyone share any light on this?

This is the information I have, 1300GT & MG 1300 rods are similar to 'S' rods but have the larger big end & are made from EN19. Standard 1300 & 1275 GT are the heaviest with the big balancing blocks & are made from EN16. A+ 1275 rods are somewhere between the two, weight-wise, but like std 1300 are made from EN16. I suspect that the photo you have found is of an A+ rod.

Vegard, these are mine from my 1300GT engine. I believe they are original 1300GT rods as the engine is original from top to bottom except diff housing, which is a mini one.

the first pic's is 1300GT/innocenti export con rod,not the a+, the one on the other pic's is the 1275gt rod EN16

Can anybody tell me why the rods has such a big "balancing" weight on them? Or should I call it an "unbalancing" weight. My Marina motor had them too. I machined them off!

We call A series rods bricks

Bin them and use A+ rods

Yes, but I've never seen such a rod and I've torn down several 1300GT engines. Were 1300GTs fitted with padded rods after a while?

Simon; in Norway A+ rods aren't very common, so we have to use what we've got. After fiddling with A ones, they're just as light and still made of better quality steel. It's just time consuming and a labour of disgust

No. the top photo is not an A+ rod. They are much lighter and nimbler than that.

I have stripped two 1300 GT engines and they both had rods similar to A+ (without the pad) but I am aware not all 1275's in GT applications had them fitted.

Yes there,s nothing so boring as lightening con rods

Do you know anyone with a CNC milling machine ?

If you have a simple fixture to hold them you can get the outside edges profile milled

I think Vegards picture shows a conrod from one of those well known Spanish NMQ-produced 1300 A-series engines.
