Can you repair the push button solenoids? What's inside them? Cheers. Mark

They are pretty much an electro-magnet. I think it would be impractical to rewind the coil but you might be able to dress the contacts. However, You have to get into it first and I don't think it will look too good after you get it back together.

They are servicible, cleening the contacts will do a great job.
The coil will allmost never be broken.
They are great to have in a rally mini, when on a stage or so and have trubble.
You can start the engine or turn over when looking at the engine.
They get really hot after some time turning over an engine. Be warned !

If someone happens to have a spare laying about, PM me.
I foolishly binned the original when it acted up. The round shaped solenoids with the pushbutton typically available from all the Mini suppliers are rubbish. (and will fail)
I would love to have a proper replacement.

And unless the quality has been improved lately, the current generation of them is notorious for a very short life span.

I meant the old units with the small red rubber push.
Not the round thing's.
If you want too buy a good quality round starter solenoid, you'de better go to a shop for
boats,chips,what ever they are called.
They normaly have navy quality, also the blue petrolpump's (replace the lucas) are boat thingy's.

Hi Minicentie,
How do you get to the contacts without detroying the appearance of the body?
