Aussie Compliance Body Number confusion

Hi All

Had a look at an Aussie spec 1967 MK1 Cooper S. Has Australian Compliance plate riveted to bulk head and build number stamped under the plate. BIG BUT the chassis number differs from the one that is stamped on the radiator cowling????

The engine number also appears on the build plate and looks correct.

Is it possible the number stamped on the Rad cowling is the British body stamp and the Australian compliance plate is the Australian Vin Number?

My gut feel is that something is Up here!

appreciate feed back from the knowledge council please!

They are usually different by about 500, 501, 505 or less sometimes.

Say the plate says YKG2S2 3264, the radiator shroud would be stamped something like M2 06 2763.

Sometimes the M2 06 is in a circle. M2 05 is a deluxe.

67 cars ran fro around 1900 to about 3500.
