What head for MK1 cooper S
HI
looking to buy a 1967 Cooper S 1275cc but the head is missing.
Q.
What head do I need to make it original?
Are they rare as hens teeth?
Can I use a latter model Head?
And if so will it effect the Vehicles market value?
thanks

1. AEG163
2. In decent condition they're quite rare, not hens teeth though, they did tend to crack.
3.Yes
4.Not to any noticable degree, lots of Mk1's have 940 heads on.

Re: What head for MK1 cooper S
Totally agree with Pete,
The 163 head is a desirable feature of a super original (if there is such a thing) car. But it is absolutely acceptable to fit it with a later large bore head.
If you are looking at factory standard heads then the one to look out for is the 11 stud 12G1805 head this was fitted to MK3 S's & to 1300GT's. Most other 12G940 cylinder heads can be modified to this spec or better fairly easily.
