I think thats the way it's always been? Not sure for more recent stuff, I know they improved some after complaints about grain being nothing like?

Yes,I looked the samples they were handing out at the 'MINI 50th' bash ,just 'Screen printed' on and not properly embossed .
I'am afraid its a case of these big companies just "cashing in",with their "that's near enough "attitude.
I put 'Newton' in the same bag as 'Aldridge Trimming',have with their approach 'Ford' items, poor fit and little attention to detail.
It's just insulting really.

The gold / silver screen printing on the majority of the Newton brocade is what can only be described as all over the place. I have seen some that is pretty good, other bits I have seen are rubbish, with not even the vaguest attempt to register the print to the pattern.

The print on the brocade has always been 'off'. I've heard of people nitomorsing the print off and drawing in the gold / silver with those art pens.

It doesn't bear close inspection does it. And it isn't cheap. The worst feature I think is that if you buy the rear (or front, come to that) parcel shelf base trim, you have to put up with a dreadful looking join down the middle

Stands out like a sore thumb quite honestly. What else can you buy though....There certainly isn't enough original stuff to go around.

Nick Vortz purchased the original brocade roller in the late 1970's from Hyde devision, but he said it was corroded on about one third where it lay on the ground outside, so only 1 mtr strips could be produced from it.
He also purchased the plain roller as well, and that cleaned up fine and he produced original none stretch
hooding from this for Mini trim.Todays trim is two way streach for easy use and thats why it looks wrong, on door panels especially, where they look to podgy. just thought you may be interested.

Brocade does seem to be a on-going problem for Newtons.
I have had some good and bad products from them over the last 10 years .
Bmc (the mini trim company) have already been mentioned on here on the check strap thread and Vortz has just been mentioned .
Surely someone somewhere must know what happened to the people behind BMC and the patterns etc for the products they and Vortz produced ?
Interesting to see what Ashley James comes up with . .

The Vortz ICI rollers went to Wardle Storey's, and weld presses, patterns and die stamps are what BMC took over and started there business with. If it was still down to Nick Vortz there wouldn't have been inferior trim,
he didn't give a shit about money, what was binned in the process of getting it to his standard was necessary
collateral damage as far as he was concerned, if it wasn't right you would just have to wait untill it was.
