Mk1 Body Number Plate, Repair or Replace ?

Hello all experts,
I need help replacing or repairing my Mk 1 body number. The number on the plate spot welded to the bonnet locking platform.
My painter
inadvertently sanded and painted over my original stamped body number that I had
very carefully transferred to a new front panel, and asked him to mask off ! I can no longer see any of the numbers.
I would like to reproduce or repair this number plate to as close as possible the original.
How can I reproduce the stamped numbers so they look as original ? Is there a club member
who knows of someone who could make up this small number plate for me ? Is there anything special about the punch
that was used to make the numbers on the original plate at the factory ?
Jim

make your own-most body numbers nseem lost from the old days when the front panels were replaced
if you cant get a similar sized punch..get a friendly engraver to engrave it in in the font you desire!!

have you cleaned off the paint yet ?
are you sure that he sanded so much / hard, that the numbers are gone ?
they might sit under the paint.

i remade one for one of mine coz the plate had been sanded so many times it had no stamping left on it,,
saying that the one on my 63 is really deeply punched and even 2k paint over it,,its still legible
the one on my 62 smoke grey however, even one light coat of cellulose rendered it totally unreadable,,the stamping was that shallow .....
suppose the factory stamping method was "just stamp it"
depends how heavy handed the operator was with his hammer!!!!!!!!

Personally I wouldn't worry. But to "restore" it as close to original as possible, engraving seems the most sensible option.

Bet there was a cross over, as there also has been MK II Cooper,s with brocade interior.
I have a 1967 MK I and it has the thick stamped plate, but I dont know how late it is ?
