Odd 850 engine number - pics added

Hi all

Collected an engine yesterday, block casting states 850 andd 12A450, engine number is 8S-H 2137??? also gearbox is magic wand 22g68.

I cant find any reference anywhare to a 8S number

Any ideas? stock 850?

sounds like to me like a bit of a cock up

think someone lost ther "5" stamp so used there "S" instead, ha ha

is that a cone gearbox, the number sound familair. but i could be wrong

Gearbox number is same as early cooper i think

I'm going to take a chance and say that's "85"

Mini GPO saloon & van 848cc 85H ( 1" restrictor in carb.)

Yeah im getting sorted (slowly) - I managed to get the one next door as well so its a sort of holding area for the big stuff.

I now just have to transfer the other 2 garages to it and start organising the shelves! :lol:

I reckon straight and organised in about 18 months!

Maybe i could have my 50th birhtday party there!

Looks like 8S to me.

8S is a BMC engine code for an 848cc Basic Service Engine.

I don't really know but I don't think its Goldseal or an early equivalent.

I compared the pictures above to other engine plates and I am now convinced it is "8S", and not "85".
