Early engines?

Hey guys

just took water pump off my 850 engine

behide the outlet of the water pump on the block is Stamped "9708"n
anyone have any idea what this means?

Blocks all grey round that area.

Anyone have any idea at all?

cleaned more of the block and its coming more grey as years of dirt come off ?

I suspect that if you ever strip the engine fully that you will find the same number on the main caps. Not seen this on too many non S engines but it was common practice on the S's.

I just stripped my early 850 and found a number stamped at the oil pump end, with similar numbers on the main bearing caps and the conrods. I assume its some sort of assembly number used by the bloke putting the engine together.

Oh right okay

well i was going to brake the engine up and sell it any ways

unless it go better off solid?
