I have a pair of Cobra Monaco seats which state FIA approved/homologated and a pair of Safety Devices 3 point harnesses. Do these things have a 'shelf life' as such ie do the rules change as to what is deemed acceptable. Somebody advised me that once four years old they are scrap!

Any FIA tekkys out there care to comment?

Was a techie a few years ago. Yes they have a shelf life, but you have to read the current rules to see what's acceptable. You can't just say "4 years"

the seats & harnesses will have a date on them, sometimes its a 'build date' sometimes its an 'expires date'
some events (rallying etc) will require them to be in date, though a lot of events wont.
it will depend on what your doing really.
it can get expensive if you have to replace a pair of seats and harnesses every four years though!
