I've several old bound volumes of Motor Sport magazine and was just flicking through 1971.

I've come across an advert for "London Sports Car Centre" which reads:

1968 Austin Cooper 'S', 1275cc. Island blue with white roof and black trim. A very comprehensive specification includes Downton conversion, sunroof, Dunlop alloys, special trim with additional instruments and rev counter, radio, twin tanks, oil cooler etc. £895

Makes me wish I was around in 71 with £895 in my pocket and the foresight to buy it and stash it for a rainy day in the future...

Also available is a 66 DB6 for £2'295, a 69 E-type for £1'995 and 1970 Capri 1600GT for £1'085!

but dont forget that the average wage in 1971 was @£2000, so a car costing 895 was quite expensive.

i doubt many people then or now would be able to simply write six months wages off on a 40 year gamble!

so a car costing 895 was quite expensive....

Especially for a Mini... only the year before I bought a very presentable Mk I S with a pretty vicious competition engine for UKP300 in Portsmouth. Sold it a year later for pretty much the same money after the obligatory continental tour.. Always wondered what happen.ed to LMF 602C.

Cheers, Ian
