Hi, I have recently acquired a mk1 morris 850 without papers or reg plates - it was sold by the owner's widow and had begun to be stripped down for restoration.

Please can someone help identify the date of manufacture to help in my enquiries with DVLA? I am told that the car was registered 1st Jan 1965 but have no evidence to support this.

The only ID tag I can find is the not-too-helpful FE number, FE758757

Thanks for any help,
Mike

Its helpful to some - late September/early October 1964 so it should be a hydro bodyshell.

They should be able to give you an age related plate by using the Chassie numbers, Commission numbers and if you had a reg plate aswell

I had this trouble with an old landy but cause we found the chassie plate and it was oringal enough they gave us a Age related plate :) instead of a Q Plate

Thanks for the replies folks, I found another thread that said to look on the driver's side "A" bracket that strengthens the join between bulkhead crossmember and inner wing. Sure enough with a bit of thinners to clear the gunge there is was. So I have the FE number, chassis number from which I can guess at a VIN number, and engine number. Hoperfully this will be enough to convince DVLA and I'll get the original reg back. Letter's in the post, let's see what happens...

Yes indeed it is, although looking a bit deflated :(

I had a similar problem, though didn't know if it was a Morris or Austin.
For 5 quid BMIHT will supply the proper (full) chassis number and Body number (welded to the slam panel) if you give them the 6 digit chassis number on the triangular brace.

if its gotthe original bonnet and/or boot this will help you knowif a morris or austin coz of the badge hole spacing
