Hi All,
Im Andy and live in Jersey.
Have only just found this forum while googling something specific to mk1 minis and thought id share some pics of my car.
Ive had the mini for 13 years and bought it as a crashed rolling shell.. Here is how it looked once I had completed it the first time round.. You'll note the 48 IDA weber popping out the top of the bonnet.. I love the sound and torque it makes..
I rebuilt it and had it sprayed and successfully raced it for 8 years.
In that time it was featured in Mini Magazine and Retro Cars and has remained pretty much unchanged until this August when I hit a couple of hay bails and a curb stone. The resultant of this was a smashed in front end, rear quarter, bent radius arm, wheel and suspension knocked out.. However as I had booked a whole weekend I porta pressed it straight and carried on.. The next days event was going well until I took a corner with the ball joint giving way throwing me into a embankment. Fail....
Here's the pics...
post first crash late last year..
check out my wheel!! surprisingly it still held air..!
Since this time its had a new front end from mini machine as the passenger corner was pushed down, new front passenger wing, new carbon fibre arches, carbon fibre bootlid, carbon fibre bumpers, door repairs, gutter repairs, new seals and full respray. After 13 years the paint was still fantastic but with minor repairs on most panels meant it easier to have a full repaint. Not bad duration for a race car..!
Mechanical parts replaced this year include:
New all steel MED race motor which revs to 8k comfortably
Radtec rad
KAD front alloy hubs
KAD 4 pot calipers
KAD tie rods
KAD beam axle and radius arms
Protech alloy coilovers
KAD anti roll bars
So basically my all out race car has had a refresh at great expense but is now significantly faster and lighter..! I'll take some more recent pics this week at some point with all the bling bits..
It will be out in 2 weeks time hill climbing here in Jersey provided I get it rebuilt in time..
Any questions feel free to ask and comments welcomed. Can't believe I only just found this forum - lol!
