When was the colour 'Speedwell Blue ' fazed out?.

was replaced by surf blue
no speedwell cars were made after 2nd sep 61
the first surf blue car was made 17 july 61

On a simlar subject and having just bought a Surf Blue Mk1..when did powder blue/grey fleck get replaced by plain powder blue on the seats ?

When the Super De-Luxe was introduced replacing both the Super & De-Luxe in October 62.

Obviously they'd has started producing the 'new' colour scheme a few weeks earlier to build up stock for the October introduction date.

..is that when the 'Austin Seven' became the 'Austin Mini' also ?

I don't know for sure but have owned 2 1962 cars and each had the fleck trim and "Austin Mini" badging.

the surf blue deluxe had powder blue/fleck seats till late oct 62 when replaced by super deluxe
the super deluxe surf blue cars had monotone powder blue
cumulous grey monotone was rare option on surf blue post oct 62 cars

basic models in surf blue from july 61 had cloth trim in 2 different patterns up until march 62 when replaced by monotone powder blue vinyl but without the seat front bolsters

all austin built sevens became officially "mini " jan 62 but a lot of dealers changed badges on older stock to make them look newer.

the plot thickens coz the austin minis built at morris cowley factory (identified by "m" at end of chassis no) wer still called "sevens" almost into early summer of 62 !!!

the morris built " austin sevens" also had the silver morris speedo and not the austin affair with cream face and red needle set up

I know Bill has built an excellent website resource for the 59's but someone really should put all these change points on a website for all the other Mk1s, there's so many of 'em !

I'm quite good up until the last quarter of 60 but from there on what little knowledge i have decreases very rapidly.

the late 60 to oct 62 cars and spec are a minefield. post 64 cars are a lot more clear-cut.

it will be good for the stuff to be documented to help others as bill and trev have done for the early stuff..

been meaning to get it sorted for ages,but its gettin sorted now.

now the old 59 projects have gone, (i have kept the original unwelded one)ive more time to sort out my 1960-63 onwards mk1 cars,which i have the most interest as there is so many derivatives,,and better synchromesh on some!!
