my dads pretty chuffed, went to a car show at the weekend and was awarded 'most original' prize (won a silver rose bowl) for his bentley.

many people comented on how nice it was to see an original car, rather than one thats been rechromed and painted.

the only major paint work that this one has had was when the passenger front wing was repainted in the 1950's, when the previous owner crashed it (and turned out not to be insured - whoops!) - the paint has cracked and crazed on that wing and now looks worse than the rest of the car





this car was bought by the previous owner for his girlfriend (then a 21 year old) in the 1950's - she used it as an everyday car, before salting it way - it sat unused until the mid 1980's when they used it very little - unfortunatly it had a bit of bodging done in the early 1990's - most of which ive managed to get rid of and repair.

it drives great, pulls well and looks fantastic - the real shame is that cars like this are getting bought and broken up to be turned into replica vintage bentleys as that sort of thing is very popular in europe.

the original owner of this car bought it and arranged for it to be delivered on christmas day 1934 - a nice present for someone!

this ones a keeper and will be left as it is - it will certainly never be rechromed, trimmed or painted whilst we own it

id like to say that as its a bentley it never breaks down, so wouldnt need to, but last time i drove it it ran out of petrol

I like Patina and that bentley has loads.

Very nice car Bob. Not enough is done here in NZ to encourage the preservation of original cars, everyone restores.

I think there is a big movement towards original unrestored cars. We are encouraging people where possible to recommission suitable cars to keep the Pat and Tina. I always say to them, you can restored any basket case to better then new condition with enough money, you you can never restore originality and age.

I think more and more people are turning away from "looks like new", brand new paint etc; more and more people are appreciating really old cars even with good bit of tear and wear, scars etc., and I am very happy about it. Just a thought...

This is the last place I'd expect to see Johnnys old Napier.
There's a hand made 3 speed gearbox in that and the wheels were also hand made.
When he imported it from the US there were a lot of bits missing which had to be made from original drawings.
It was basically a very large box of bits.

It's incredible how Johnny and his son build the bits from scratch, very talented. There is a few excellent engineering companies in the area they use for machining, and they get a very good rate with them for jobs. There is even a small family run forge that usually does custom cast wrought iron gates as their line of business. It would surprise me he went there to get the wheels cast. Rumour has it the forge has its own small coalmine in the back of their factory for coal to use. But that could be a myth!

just been told they have entered the steampowered online age. Anyone for custom driveway gates, anyone?
