Surf Blue

So my original Nov.61 built tinnie is Surf Blue. On areas of scratches it appears to be painted red primer, white, than the blue. Did they always paint surf blue cars white first than blue? It's blue everywhere never been repainted. Blue under dash and under car thanks

Yes the undercoat on many Mk1's (of all colours) does look to be white with the red oxide coloured dip underneath that. Couple of illustrations here of mid 60's cars with white showing through the scratched topcoat......
Not sure if earlier undercoat was a buff colour but it would seem so looking at this.........

One my floors you can see the red wearing through the very thinly painted blue.
Also note the craters on the left where they must have poured the paint in!
