It will have poor handling, For sure the shell is going to flex all over the place in it's current condition and with that simple roll cage. Things have moved on.

Wouldn't it be great to have a cars and Cars Conversions display at Blyton. There's four or five (Mini based) cars about and isn't it 50 years since Triple C started?

Not so, shells in those days were made out of considerably thicker metal and didn't need a cage to hold them together.
It's the tins that John West reject that they used to make later mini shells.

If it's a 59 as stated then the sheet metal would be thinner I thought?

'59 shells were much sought after for racing in the '70's because they were lighter (and often less rusty due to the foam filled sills !)

Probably is a lightweight shell. According to what I was told, the external seat belt mount holes at the top of the B post make it a lightweight shell.

I've spoken to the owner and this car will most likely be coming to Blyton (and form part of a Cars and Car Conversions display.
)

its not that they where thinner, but there was less metal in them, to start with, for example they didn't have the inner sills or sill toppers in the companion boxes.

hello everybody my name is luke i have been with this car ever since it was bought off ebay in 2012. it was bought by a good friend of mine the car was a mess to start with but did run and drive he stripped it and lost interest. i stepped in to take the car on but at the last minute my best mate stepped in a bought the car out right (Jordan). although disappointed i still look after and care massively about this car. i have done all the research and was the main driving force to get it to castle combe this year . when jordan bought the car it was a shell no engine or seats fuel brakes lines etc. i sourced and fitted an early magic want 850 unit from a mk1 riley elf and got the car up and running and mobile. im very excited that we have been invited to blyton and also the NEC both of which will will be attending.
in the last few months/years we have found out a lot about the car including a heritage certificate! but it has left more questions than answers to be honest this is what we know
we found one body number on top of the inner wing dating the car. it was built in late October 1959 in speedwell blue. it was a standard car just fitted with a heater.
in 1974 the car appeared in car and car conversions for the first time in around march. Fred game built it as a super lightweight race car to compete in the kent messenger series and the "little loom series"? we believe it was later raced in the hitatchi and wendy wools championships but we have no proof of this. the car is in amazing original condition retaining much of what the magazine modifications state. we are desperate to get hold of Fred game as hes the only one who can fill in the blanks of the car.
last week i found some old Phil whitehead adverts in september 1974 CCC that shows this car and what i believe to be fred games midget what i have notice is also present on the forum. what happend to phil/jack whitehead engines? the only photo we have of the car back in the day is this one taken at biggin hill in may 1974
i will go into more detail and upload more photos once i get the mags back off jordan
many thanks luke

Luke
Welcome to the forum.
Great to hear that you are going to display the car and get it running again.
Stuart
PS I was the bloke at Castle Combe in the hat who took the pics.

Hi Luke, looking forward to meeting you both at Blyton finally.
Don't forget that number on the stiffener is the chassis number not the body number.

Hi Luke and welcome to the Mk1 Forum.
As you know I have been trying to track down Fred Game via the TenTenths Motorsport History forum (with the aid of Stuart/surfblue63's great photos) but sadly no luck so far.

This is awesome. I really hope it will not be put back as a 59 trailer queen, glass washer bottle and all.
What you need is a proper period 10/10ths race engine to go with it.

evening all
thankyou for all the help with tracing the cars history,
I have been speaking to my landlord today and have lent him the mags to which he is going to see if he can find anything
else in them that might have been missed.
he will also be looking in to the kent messenger championship for me to try and get some old race results with the car mentioned
me and luke will be at the nec this weekend with the vehicle, if any of you are attending feel free to come and say hi.
regards
Jordan

Fred Game has been found and is to be reunited with the car!
Quote from TMF:
"Our good friend Marcos came across some old motor club records and found Fred was a member back in the 70's Jordan emailed all the archive people around 14 of them and we had no response until Fred emailed Jordan yesterday. once i get a copy of the email i will share it as theres loads of information on the car in it and what happend to it. turns out for example it had a jack knight gearbox in it till some bugger pinched it and a 970cc engine that went back to fil whitehead hes the next man on our hunt"
