if youre painting something with crackle black paint you get fantastic results if you just stick the fresh painted part in a hot oven about 100 deg c, crackles and dries in 10 mins but do it when the wifes out cause it stinks

When I last painted with the crinkle finish I set the freshly painted item beside a halogen heater for a 1/2 hour or so - came up with really good finish as well.

Also if you have some infra-red lamps, they work very well everytime for me, probably more because of the amount of times I have used the stuff.

Make sure you set a timer, my Dad blew up the garage a few years back when he left a paint can on top of a Halogen heater. Blew the back doors apart, bent the metal front door, smashed most things in the garage and lifted the roof beams.

"whats the best one to use?"

I have had consistently good results with the VHT crackle paint & consistently bad results from the HYCOTE variety.

another vote for the VHT one here, Ive got good results by preheating the part, the heat lamp does sound like a good bet too, I'll have try that,

it does Pong though...

Crackle balcked another rocker cover yesterday, and it looked great, the person I sold it too was well chuffed with the final thing. VHT is the one to go for.

Any advice for someone who bought a can of HYCOTE before this thread was started?

I just paint with the VHT stuff from Frost and leave it... crackles up fine without being in the oven etc

VHT from frost is what I use...

I've used a Hot air gun in the past which works well, but Ive also left it overnight with similar results...

I could do with painting my heater to smarten it up, looking somewhat tatty and letting down the rest of the interior. Where do I get the Car / Screen / Off decals or transfers from to replace them after repainting?

I use a heat gun, its even quicker than the oven!
VHT is the best.
