shame, it's got rear lights with it, I could have sold them the ones I have on Ebay at the moment! :lol:

That is rough! looks like it was dredged out of a canal.

Not too well up on Lotus Cortinas but I thought the two unique things about them was the engine/box and the shell which was quite different in the suspension/panel material to the standard car, if it is not the original shell then the seller surely just has an engine and box for sale, please correct me if I am wrong as the correct spec would be interesting.

Did they not have aluminium bonnets, the one on this is obviously not.

Shame the word 'Works' is not mentioned, would double the price.

from memory, Early ones had alloy opening panels and the 'A' frame rear axle location of the S2 seven. Ford didn't like the hand finishing needed for the alloy panels (they supplied the finished shells to Lotus for mechanical assembly), and typical Ford buyers didn't like the longevity (or rather the lack of it) of the rear axle location - the centre bush wears out very quickly, and places a lot of strain on the bottom of the diff, leading to leaks which further deteriorates the bush - so these features were phased out during Mk1 production. A late Mk1 will have steel panels and the GT rear suspension.

The early ones are worth a fair bit more.

There is a change to 'airflow' models somewhere in the mix too.

The thickness of the floorpan is different between the standard and the GT/Lotus. In addition, there are body strengthening/rigidity modifications, all of which can be bought and welded in now.

Panels are available to make a lotus cortina out of a standard Mk1.

Sounds like the Triumph Tiger 100 works racer made in the early 50's, they used special aluminium heads and barrels which were only available from Triumphs at that time in the form of a GP Racer. Generators fitted to lancaster bombers were powered by a light weight Triumph engine which incorporated these lightweight heads and barrels, after the war they became available as surplus stock and a lot of people converted there standard Tiger 100's with iron heads and barrels using these items from the generator engines emulating the GP racer and passing them off as such.

As with Mk1 works cars more than were made survive!!

It is said that out of the 300 of so official GP racers issued by the facory only 450 survive.......

Similarly, it was once apparently overheard in a historic paddock that someone wisely pointed out (specifically relating to Lotus 23s, i think)

"God, if Chapman had built all these Lotuses, he wouldn't have needed Delorean!"

If Chapman had been kept away from the rear suspension, Ford would have had a potential rally winner for 3 and a half years years rather than 18 months and the Cooper S would not have anything like the reputation/record it has as an International rally car.
