Quite a number of the works rally cars had RX in their registration numbers as in GRX and CRX, was there any significance in this or were they just registered in the same area.

Hi
Any *RX is a Reading area registration
e.g.
HRX K APR 1972 ->
HRX D FEB 1966 ->
HRX FEB 1953

Can't see the connection though....some help needed here

RX, like JB, MO, BL was a Berkshire registration suffix at the time. Abingdon-on-Thames was then in Berkshire, before county boundaries were changed and it found itself in Oxfordshire.

Modern "historical" records of registration suffixes now seem to refer to towns where there is, or was, a Vehicle Licensing Office. Originally it was a county suffix, not a town suffix.

The old AA handbooks had the list so you could trace where a car was registered
