Reece Fish carbs.

Hallo,
The other day I opened a box from 1967. The contece was a pair of Reece Fish 1½ " carbs fitted to my Broadspeed 970S Mini. They have done aprox. 10 races and in mint condition. There is a marking on each L162 resp. L169.
I remeber from the time we had great problem to tune them properly and last time we used them was 1969 in the Swedish 6th round of the Championship.
Today and £ 50.000 later I race the same Mini in Scandinavia and the RHK Championship with S.U.´s and was the past two years outright champion FIA App.K.
Still I want to use these carbs for just testing an evaluate at the rolling road how good or bad they are.
But I do not know where to begin for set up and tuning. I have found many articles at the net but most of them seems to me as wasted time.
Please, is there anyone who can guide me right?

There is a guide to setup in Clive Trickey's book, Tuning The Classic Mini

You are quite right, nobody knows here to begin to tune them. One is hard enough, but 2 cubes the problems. as you say, most of the articles are a aste of time, because no one has ever got a pair to work correctly in tune for long enough to close the bonnet.
i remember someone ho had a pair on a mini around the same time as yourself and his are probably in a box in the back of the garage like yours. That's the clue.

I really want to run a reece carb on my clubmans car, 2 would be better, but my mechanic pal (who will inevitably have to fix it when I cock it up) resolutely refused to get involved with twins!
He also raised his eyebrows sufficiently at my recent plan to run twin 1 1/4" Wal Philips injectors to dissuade me from such folly.
I'm assuming a single would need to be a 1 1/2" for a 998 engine in moderate tune, or would a 1 3/4" be an option?
What sort of prices are Reeces going for these days?

On board wideband required, and Trickeys book. All tuning done with a turn of screw iirc. It surely must be easier than filing SU needles.

1 1/2" for a 998 engine in moderate tune
Yes.. that's also the one I have on my A serie 998..
Price
Paid 250 euro for mine, with all documentation and original invoice, Reece fish tools, rampipe, extra gascable holder. Which was a very good price compared to some ebay auctions i saw later

Hi Jaapio,
So, we are a few out into the wilderness of Fish. I will off course try to get hold of CT´s book and thank you everyone for your inputs.
However Jaapio, would it be possible to persuade you a copy of the manual and also be informed about the tool you had with them.
Thank´s
Tommy
