The start of another interesting thread, does the car have motorsport history ?

Great to see another early mini resto. keep up the good work.
I see the front panel has been modded to accept an oil cooler, aka S.

The car does not have any motor sport history.
I have fitted the front panel to accomodate the possibility for oil cooler possibly in future.
I also have fitted the Proper MK1 Front Panel. (the one with extended bits under the Bumpers)
I do have a set of reverse rims that I am unsure if i'll fit but time will tell. Cocentrating more on the body work and Rust preventative measures first.

That is interesting, keep posting pictures please !
I like the fitting of the door handles, I seem to remember a member here posted some early pictures of his 1071S showing the same arrangement.
Was the car whit initially ? Is it some surf blue that I can spot near the roof gutter ?? - appart the boot, right.
I agree with Pete, there is a racing feeling emerging from this car. Nice.
Cheers Etienne

Mainly due to the cut outs in the original front panel ?

the car is originally Old English WHITE.
found all sorts of colours on the roof. GOLD BLUE etc....
seams teh boot was taken from a surf blue at some point.
think the car originally had oil cooler but no race history....
the handles are the same as teh ones on my 1961 van. i don't see them as different.
my van
does anyone out there have (or take) a picture of how the petrol tank strap mounts to the boot floor. mine didnt' have the floor...........thanks for looking.

Loving the commercial.
Re the tank strap, there is normally a captive nut welded to the underside of the boot which takes the bolt which holds the strap in place.
Some pics just taken of my 61 Mini Minor.

I was meaning that the handles do point backwards, not forwards as per your (very nice) van.
I am sure I saw similar conversions in the past, together with a few mods meant to modernise a car ...
JK would probably agree ... alloys, bigger front indicators, reflective number plates, etc.
About that race feeling, yes, cut outs, but also all those colours.
and maybe that oil cooler as well.
I would personnally have tried to keep that racy identity, second to me it is part of the history of this particular car,
but it is also representative of a certain approach at a certain time. This is how certain gents did in the past !
But this is certainly a very personnal point of view which doesn't mean I do not support your effort to rebuild the car back to original specifications ! And if I can help to do so, I will happilly !
Which were the brakes "originally" fitted to the car ?

car didn't have brakes when I got it but have managed to source a set of cooper s discs. so might put them on for practicality.
regards the handles. I just thought that they were thrown on quickly and the owner didn't have a clue...
The aim is simple at the moment. Get teh car through Body work and MOT Test. Then I can maybe find history from taking it to shows ETC but want a nice classic before I want a racer. Each to their own as you said.

I've got original pictures of my car with the handles fitted like this, must have been a go-faster modification back then

I thought the handles were reversed to stop 'hooking' errant cyclists under the ribcage!
Hence the bosses on later mk1's

well as usual with body work there is always far more prep required than you first see. so i now have no finger prints and the body is smooth and ready for paint. so should be getting some OEW thrown at it this weekend.
Typical though at the moment as I look out the window there is arounf 2 foot of snow so that will put a hold on getting her home for the re build.
never mind all good things come to those who wait. and wait...... and wait.................... and wait..........................

Etienne B. remembered a 1071s with a similar door handle arrangement to yours, I think he may have meant the one I have, see photo taken in mid 70's, changed them over just to be different
